IS PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE, WRIGHT OR WRONG?

Should suffering and dying patients be allowed to end their
own lives with the aid of a physician?
Physician assisted suicide is a case whereby a dying or
suffering patient is allowed to end their suffering by
committing suicide with the aid of a physician.
The term assisted suicide may also refer to the act of providing
an individual with the means to commit suicide, knowing that the recipient plans to use these means to end his or her own life. If a doctor provides medications
or other means of committing suicide with the understanding that the patient may intentionally use them to end his or her life.
Every assisted suicide is a last resort, and every decision to die
is rational, deliberate, and freely made. Good life and death- that
the ticket. Just take a pill and fall gently and eternally asleep.
Most advocates of assisted suicide do not want physician induced death limited to people with terminal illness(disease that
will cause death) only.
One advocate said " The law must change to permit an exemption to murder for doctors who provide a peaceful death to a suffering, irreversibly- ill adult
who makes a competent, repeated request for an assisted death, for example arthiritis is
irreversible so are diabetes, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord
injury, and some mental illnesses.
The "Zurich Declaration," issued
in october 1998 by the federation of Right to Die Societies, stated:" we believe that we have a major responsiblity for ensuring that it becomes legally possible for all competent adults suffering severe and enduring distress, to recieve medical help
to die, if this is their persistent, voluntary and rational request" in other words, the bottom line of the assisted suicide movement is not to death as last resort, but rather death on demand. What do you think? Is this morally right or wrong? Who will the blood be on his head? Is it on the head of the patient or the physician (doctor). For me it is totally wrong. A woman said on a debate conducted by Wesly J.Smith " I watched my son suffer
for four years before he died, he didn't ask to die, but I worry that I was wrong not to have asked the doctor to end it for him sooner".
I would like to hear from you, drop your comment, is it right or
wrong?
